What is SORBA? The Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) is the largest nonprofit mountain biking organization in the Southeast. Our members work with land managers in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee to create trails and trail systems for mountain bikers and other users to enjoy. Through advocacy, education, and recreational opportunities, SORBA carries out its mission to promote land access, trail preservation, and new trail development in order to enhance mountain bike touring, racing, fun, and fellowship for all mountain bicyclists in the southeastern United States.
We have partnered with the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and now represent over 3,600 members who help steward miles and miles of great trails in a seven-state area. The best riding in the Southeast is found on trails maintained by our volunteers. Our members love singletrack, rocks, roots, and logs, and we employ IMBA's trailbuilding practices to ensure that our trails are sustainable and challenging. SORBA was one of the first clubs to be affiliated IMBA.
IMBA SORBA relies on our wonderful members to carry out our mission. Our volunteers donate thousands of hours each year to advocate for trail access, build trails, and maintain trails. SORBA volunteers take pride in their work, and it shows in the trails that they build. Our news magazine, the Fat Tire Times, showcases member involvement, advocacy issues, trail information and much more. Join IMBA SORBA today!
What is Upstate SORBA? This chapter of SORBA exists in order to specifically serve the needs of SORBA members in the Upstate region of South Carolina . This includes Greenville, Anderson ,Spartanburg, Oconee, Pickens, Laurens counties, and surrounding areas. Upstate SORBA (local chapter of the Southeastern Off-Road Bicycle Association, IMBA affiliate, Member of the Palmetto Cycling Coalition PCC, and Member of USA Cycling ) is more than just a riding club. It is an advocacy organization that helps keep the trails you ride open to all mountain bikes. We work with land managers, and policy makers to develop fair, and responsible policies governing the use of public and private lands.
What do we do? Upstate SORBA serves as the official voice of mountain biking in the area. We act as liaison to local government, and private landowners in order to preserve access to trails in the area, as well as encouraging the development of more trails. We believe that this spirit of cooperation and responsibility will ensure that we always have a place to ride our bikes. In addition, we strive to promote the sport of mountain biking in the Upstate of South Carolina by providing a social network of riders and like-minded people. Monthly meetings, special events, group rides, and other activities provide a setting where those seeking to learn more about mountain biking or improve their skills or fitness can find a welcoming and friendly environment.
How do I get involved? You are welcome at any of our events, including our group rides, trail building and meetings. Check our calendar for upcoming events. We also have eMail lists where we make announcements, discuss advocacy business, chat about rides, and trail conditions and make race team announcements. If you are interested in joining any of these email lists please GO HERE and sign up.
